Carl opened his first instrument repair shop in 1970 in Charlotte, NC. He has spent thirty years building a reputation for flawless craftsmanship and high standards. While he has built a number of instruments over the years, Carl’s specialty is making fine American made instruments play and sound great. Part of this business was, of course, installing pickups; his dissatisfaction with the sound produced by popular brands of pickups lead him to start his own pickup line in 1991. In the past, his repair shop has included a retail component, which gave him the compassion to support the locally owned music stores when launching the pickup line. He has always felt that personal service is crucial in the music business and has chosen dealers who feel the same. A musician for more than forty years, he has been in a variety of bands but his current playing is limited to our living room and a Wednesday bluegrass jam session in Cherryville, NC. In addition to manufacturing the pickups, Carl still restores old Martins and repairs newer fine American made guitars.
